Hi, I’m steph!

THANKS FOR STOPPING BY!

For nearly my entire life, I’ve loved being a runner, a reader, and an avid dark chocolate eater. But when a devastating loss flipped my world inside out, I lost joy in even my most favorite things. In finding my way through the pain, I became a writer, an accidental grief researcher, a TEDx Curator, and ultimately, an experiential expert in ambiguous grief.

From my own experience and the stories shared by countless others, I understand the unique challenges of grieving the loss of a loved one who is still alive. Through trials and tears, I’ve traveled around the United States and Central America in search of understanding this grief and healing my heart. Along the way, I have met so many others who were also grieving a loss not from physical death and found that our kind of grief is largely overlooked and almost always misunderstood. (But you don’t know what you don’t know until you do know. AmIright?)

Now that I know, my mission is to ensure that no one navigating ambiguous grief suffers alone or forever. So, I have compiled a slew of resources for you, right here!

I invite you to look around and think of this as your online home for healing—a place where you can connect without judgment as you travel through this season of change. Here you may find comfort in someone else’s story, be inspired to share your own or learn a new strategy that unlocks the next step in your healing. You can find your way through with resources that offer support, affirmations, suggestions, conversation, and a budding community to help navigate the gnarled nuances of this challenging experience.

Check out what brought me to know this grief in the “Stories” tab, and if you would like to share your own, I’d be honored. My insights on ambiguous grief have been featured in various publications and in my book Soulbroken: A Guidebook For Your Journey Through Ambiguous Grief. Whether you are among the growing group of grievers, a healing hopeful, a spiritual seeker, or just plain ole inspired by the resilience of the human experience, I’m glad you’re here and invite you to join me on the path forward.

It’s not easy, but it’s so worth it. You can do it. I’m rooting for you.

PS- If you’d like to learn more about ambiguous grief, check out my research here and be sure to take the assessment and the survey, pretty please and thank you. Both are anonymous and first-person accounts are wildly helpful in understanding the ambiguous grief process.

A favorite photo, a dear friend’s book, and my Tibetan singing bowl are healing treasures that ground me in the present moment!

Tito was an extroverted, people-loving cat who enjoyed watching birds and bossing me around all day long.

Proudly crafted by my own hands, I keep my mala beads close as a tool to connect to the present moment (especially so when the calendar feels overwhelming)!
